Architect

The architect of the Golf Club Grand Ducal was Major J. C. Symonds.

His approach was inspired by another British Major, Tom Simpson, who was the initial choice of the decision-makers of Luxembourg’s first golf club, but  who unfortunately was not available for this project.

However, our course shows many interesting similarities with what will become the "Simpson Touch", to be found in other venerable courses designed by Major Tom Simpson such as Ravenstein in Belgium, Morfontaine in France, Royal Lytham & Saint Annes in England, Carnoustie Angus in Scotland and Ballybunion in Ireland. It also explains why our club figures on the  Tom Simpson Society list of courses designed or reworked by Tom Simpson.
